Why do you have a Fair Usage Policy, what does it mean?
Solution Our Fair Usage Policy (FUP), is intended to protect the majority of our users in circumstances where the actions of a few can degrade the service. Like all networks, our service is contended (although at a much lower rate in comparison to other providers), and when some connections are left running flat out for days at a time, it can have an affect on the service to others. In these circumstances, we will make attempts to contact the users in question to discuss their usage and what we can do to improve the overall situation. There are times when people are unaware that their connection is being used so heavily, perhaps a computer has been left on with a peer-to-peer (P2P) progam running, or maybe even a security breach on a particular computer that is sending spam emails. When contact attempts fail, or excessive usage continues to the detriment of others, we may take action to temporarily limit the connection of the individuals in question. This is a last resort, and something that is only done to benefit the majority of users. We are aware that as technology advances, people want to make the most of their connections, and we want our customers to enjoy using their connection. We normally advise that if there is a large amount of dowloading to be done, this should be done during off-peak hours which are 11pm-5am.
